The off and on again lockdowns we have all been suffering through have taken a toll of the Garden’s finances, on Gift Aid donations and on the Ventnor Botanic Garden Friends Society reserves.
However, the Living Collection at VBG knows nothing of COVID: propagation and bed preparation for spring plant out still has to be done; therefore, we need your support to top up our funding for the Apprentice Scheme at VBG, so we do not have to furlough the two Apprentices, Indie Wyatt and Ellis Gant and can continue to fund their supervisor, Trish Brenchley. With your support they will be able to continue their training and learning toward their Level 2 Horticultural Certificates.
As you can imagine many of the revenue streams we have worked hard to create have gone to zero: Weddings, Accommodation and VBG@Home, our garden design and development service.
To that end we are asking for donations of any amount whether, £5, £500 or £5,000 to keep the scheme going and make the Garden ready for spring when we hope Members, Visitors and Volunteers can return in bigger numbers. Our target fundraising amount is £30,000 which will protect the scheme through into next summer when we hope revenues will recover.
100% of all donations will go to work funding the apprentices who work at VBG in parallel with following a Level 2 Horticulture curriculum through the Isle of Wight College. No administrative fees will be deducted and all donations will go to Registered Charity # 1174751, The Ventnor Botanic Garden Friends Society.
Many businesses are suffering and although we remain open albeit with no building access, we are still generating a fraction of our usual revenues since April 2020.
